Tree Risk Management

Large trees have the potential to cause serious injury through structural failure. Landowners have a duty of care toward others regarding their trees and should have a regular system of inspection in place. I am happy to discuss individual trees through to large scale surveys containing thousands of trees.

The Survey will be carried out using the accepted Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) method and will contain recommendations for the future management of your tree stock.

Development Surveys (BS 5837)

Trees enhance our built environment and provide benefits including visual amenity, habitat for a range of species and serve to moderate the local climate.

My surveys aim to provide a harmonious and sustainable relationship between trees and the built structures on site. To achieve this, I follow the guidance laid down in the standard BS 5837: 2012 Trees in relation to Design, Demolition and Construction – Recommendations.

I recommend early engagement of my services in the design process so we can guide the planning application through the Local Authority system to a successful conclusion. The full report includes:

  • Tree survey and categorisation.
  • A Tree Constraints Plan detailing Root Protection Areas (RPAs).
  • An Arboricultural Impact Assessment.
  • An Arboricultural Method Statement.
  • A Tree Protection Plan.

Mortgage Reports

These are predictive surveys, based on a site visit and desktop study, to assess whether the existing vegetation may have the potential to cause subsidence damage to your future house purchase. This also includes advice on the structural and physiological health of the vegetation, and recommendations for future management.

(Please note, if there is already existing damage to the property believed to be caused by vegetation, then the homeowner requires a Subsidence Investigation through their insurers).

Subsidence Investigation Report

I can provide a review of an existing investigation for homeowners and Local Authorities, where a second opinion is sought for a Subsidence damage claim to a property by vegetation. The report will consider soil type, tree species and engineering investigations amongst other criteria.

Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) and Conservation Areas

I can offer general advice for TPO trees and trees in Conservation Areas, through to acting as your agent for any proposed pruning/felling works and submitting the correct paperwork to the Local Planning Authority (LPA).
